Houston County Justice Center

Houston County Jail Houston County Jail

Houston County was operating the oldest jail in the state of Minnesota. Unfortunately, the historic jail was no longer meeting their needs. County officials hired Klein McCarthy Architects to design their new 82-bed facility. The new jail needed to use modern technology while matching the historic nature of the downtown area, including the 1883 courthouse. These challenges were combined with a limited building season due to harsh winters. Klein McCarthy chose SteelCell of North America to provide modular detention units. Prefabricated units speed up construction, allowing the project to be built within a shorter time frame. SteelCell

SteelCell helped design and provide the detention cells, modular single and gang shower units, modular janitor closets and a combination of both units that met the needs of this facility.

In just 15 months, Houston County had a state-of-the-art facility. The Houston County Justice Center is a unique facility. It was featured in Correctional News as a Facility of the Month.
