Mental Health, Manufacturing & Momentum: Recapping the 2025 Pauly Jail Seminar

SteelCell was proud to host this year’s Pauly Jail Mental Health & Criminal Justice Seminar—a day that brought together some of the brightest minds and dedicated professionals in the justice and detention industry. With over 150 attendees joining us in person at our Georgia campus and over 100 tuning in online, this event was a powerful demonstration of what happens when our industry comes together to evolve and innovate.

This seminar would not have been possible without the leadership and vision of Joe Pohrer, CEO of Pauly Jail Building Company, whose commitment to progress in the justice space continues to inspire. Joe not only orchestrated the success of the event but also took the stage as a featured speaker, helping frame the day’s central focus on how mental health awareness is reshaping the future of detention facility design and manufacturing.

Our very own Mike Smith, CEO of SteelCell and VitalSpace, joined an outstanding lineup of speakers, including Dr. Deanna Dwinger, a clinical psychologist with deep expertise in justice-involved populations, and Major General Mark Inch (Ret.), former director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. These conversations challenged us all to rethink the environments we build and the role they play in supporting better outcomes.

Throughout the day, we welcomed groups on the SteelCell campus for guided tours, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how we manufacture our detention cells, CareAffirm mental health units, Ground Level Offices, and more. We were especially proud to highlight products from our newest acquisition, Portable Solutions Group (PSG), and to host 14 leading vendors from across the justice sector whose innovations were on display for all to see.

It was an honor to open our doors for this impactful event, and we extend our deepest thanks to Joe Pohrer and the entire Pauly Jail Building Company team, along with our guest speakers, exhibitors, and attendees. The conversations sparked and connections made will carry this industry forward, and we’re thrilled to have been a part of it.
